Hall of Fame Author Kamille Smith Shines at Jr. EYBL Nike Nationals While Uplifting Youth in Chicago Alongside Sister Kamryn

Chicago, IL - While most 13-year-olds focus solely on competition during major national basketball tournaments, Hall of Fame Author and elite Jr. EYBL athlete Kamille Smith is already making a name for herself beyond the court—and this weekend, she had help from her younger sister, Kamryn Smith, an award-winning author in her own right.

Kamille competed in the Jr. EYBL Nike Nationals in Chicago, Illinois, as a major contributor for the Sports City Angels, who finished an impressive 5-1, falling just short in the championship game. But the weekend wasn’t just about basketball—it was about legacy, leadership, and literacy.

Kamille and Kamryn teamed up for a special visit to the Building Brighter Futures Center on Chicago’s West Side, where they hosted a heartfelt reading and book giveaway. Kamille read from her bestselling book Girls Fall Down Sometimes, while Kamryn distributed copies of their other crowd favorite, Switching Up My Hair. Together, they delivered empowering messages on confidence, resilience, and self-expression to a room full of eager young learners.

Kamryn, 10, has built her own reputation as a dynamic youth author and speaker, recently releasing A Race To Remember, a story about overcoming anxiety and setting records. Though she wasn’t playing in the basketball tournament, Kamryn’s presence as a literacy ambassador added an important layer of inspiration to the weekend.

“Basketball is important to me, but giving back is even bigger,” Kamille shared. “It meant so much to do this with my sister Kamryn—we both want girls to know their voices matter.”

Kamille and Kamryn made history last year as the youngest siblings to host a signing at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, and their continued commitment to service is proving just as impactful as their creative achievements.
