The results of a public online vote determined the amount each nonprofit received —

Four Pittsburgh-area nonprofits will collectively receive $50,000 in donations after NRG, a leading consumer services and energy company, recently revealed the results of its annual charitable-giving program NRG Gives.

The program, which included an online public vote, awarded a total of $100,000 to nonprofits across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The four nonprofits with the most votes received $15,000 and the remaining four nonprofits received $10,000.

All four Pennsylvania nonprofits are from the Pittsburgh area. Their final awards are:

  • Beverly’s Birthdays - $10,000 - Beverly’s Birthdays provides birthday cheer for children experiencing homelessness and families in need. From “birth” to age 18, and special milestones in-between, Beverly’s Birthdays spreads cheer 365 days a year.
  • BikePGH - $10,000 - BikePGH is transforming the streets of Pittsburgh to make biking and walking commonplace for all Pittsburghers in order to improve our quality of life and reduce the harmful effects of car dependence in our communities.
  • Hannahtopia Foundation - $15,000 - Inspired by Hannah’s experience with severe intractable epilepsy (a neurological condition of the brain where the main symptom is a seizure), the Hannahtopia Foundation, based in Pittsburgh, brings happiness, hope and love to those living with epilepsy by gifting cheerful, colorful and functional products that are essential for comfort and healing.
  • Lower Valley Community Food Bank - $15,000 - Lower Valley Community Food Bank is a nonprofit organization, serving the communities of Cheswick Borough, Harmar Township, Indiana Township, Springdale Borough and Springdale Township. Approximately 170 families (about 750 individuals) are served.

“At NRG, we are committed to supporting communities and the organizations that impact them every day,” said Mike Rombach, Vice President and General Manager at NRG Home. “We hope that this is the beginning of a long-lasting relationship with each of these great organizations and we look forward to watching their community impact.”

Since its start in 2016, NRG has donated more than $1 million to more than 50 organizations through the NRG Gives program. NRG Gives is just one of many charitable-giving initiatives under the positiveNRG umbrella which supports nonprofits where NRG customers and employees live and work.
