NRG and UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation celebrating surpassing $2 million in contributions through NRG's Choose to Give charitable program.

Choose to Give is a program that allows NRG customers to support local nonprofits everyday by simply paying their energy bills. NRG’s Choose to Give program launched at UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation in January 2023. The Foundation is the first nonprofit in Pittsburgh to partner in the program.

“NRG’s Choose to Give program has benefited UPMC Children’s and our This Moment fundraising campaign in ways we couldn’t have anticipated in such a short amount of time,” said Rachel Petrucelli, UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation President. “We thank NRG for their commitment to give back to the communities they serve, and we look forward to working together to fuel critical advancements in pediatric health care.”

When customers enroll in the electricity or natural gas plans that benefit UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation, NRG will contribute $50 for the customer’s electric plan and $25 for the gas plan. In addition, NRG contributes one percent of the supply portion of each customer’s bill to the Foundation annually for as long as the customer remains on the plan.

“Knowing that these funds are helping children and families in the Pittsburgh region is why our partnership with UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation is extremely important to us,” said Mike Rombach, Vice President and General Manager of NRG Consumer. “The success of this program is a direct reflection of how important UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation is to our customers and the communities it serves.”

NRG’s Choose to Give program has raised more than $20 million since launching in 2016. UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation is one of six children’s hospitals the Choose to Give program supports. The other five are Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Boston Children’s Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, and Nemours Children’s Health in Wilmington, DE.
