WHO’s 5th Walk the Talk – 8000+ Individuals Joined “Health for All” Movement

The World Health Organization (WHO) hosted the fifth iteration of its anticipated ‘Walk the Talk: The Health Challenge for All‘ on Sunday, May 26, 2024. It was a positive beginning to the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly, drawing thousands of participants, including celebrities and sports personalities.

Among 8,000 other participants, people on foot or in wheelchairs joined the walk, covering the 3 and 4.2 km routes to support and promote the health of all notions. The event was held at Place des Nations and the WHO headquarters campus, with various Geneva cultural and sports personalities attending many activities. 

The Indian and Indonesian groups organized yoga, dance, and different zealous activities during the event. Sherrie Silver and her Foundation Band led musical and dance performances. Young Rwandan artists and the Psycodrummers from Italy were also featured during the performance.

Prominent personalities, including Alfonso Gomez, the mayor of Geneva, and Jürg Lauber, the Switzerland ambassador of the UN in Geneva, launched the event. Geneva Canton Councilor Nathalie Fontanet also joined the opening party. 

Many International Olympic and Paralympic flagbearers, including David Rudisha from Kenya, Marcel Hug from Switzerland, and advocate Susannah Rodgers from the UK, alongside Committee President Andrew Parsons and childhood obesity advocate Pau Gasol, were all given “Health Champion” awards by WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Minister Chris Tufton of Jamaica spoke at the event alongside other renowned global health experts, and Minister Anne Rabbitte of Ireland created an impact with her powerful words. 

The Gasol Foundation provided an intervention on the connection between sport and nutrition, and basketball enthusiasts got the chance to hone their skills at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) stand. Numerous organizations, including the University Hospital of Geneva, the Jamaican Let’s Move health promotion project, and the children’s cancer nonprofit Zoe 4 Life, provided information and events to encourage ways to promote and safeguard health.
