Custom Breaks Ground on World-Class Multimodal Distribution Facility in Longview, Texas, with a Golden Spike Ceremony

New facility will accommodate a wide range of shippers looking to safely move commodities and finished products more efficiently

Executives and team members of Custom Inc., a logistics company delivering comprehensive solutions to shippers, joined customers, partners and local dignitaries to drive a “Golden Spike” into a new rail spur marking the beginning of construction for the company’s latest Multimodal Distribution Facility in Longview, Texas. The facility, capable of transloading thousands of railcars and trucks per year with a max capacity over 630 cars, is located on a 175-acre tract that will interchange with Union Pacific Railroad. The site, conveniently located near Interstate-20, is expected to be operating within 12 months.

Speakers at the Longview Multimodal Distribution Facility Golden Spike ceremony include David L. Stevenson, Owner of Custom; David A. Stevenson, Executive Vice President of Custom, Dan McLaughlin, Assistant Vice President - Marketing & Sales Operations for Union Pacific Railroad, and Judge Bill Stoudt of Gregg County.

“We’re proud of this new site and the potential it represents for the local Longview Economy and our company. Our team is committed to providing the local, national and global shippers supported by this rail terminal with the highest level of customer service while ensuring a safe workplace for everyone,” said David L. Stevenson. “The Longview Multimodal Distribution Facility also shows our commitment to the region by adding dozens of high-paying construction and then permanent operating jobs.”

The Longview Multimodal Distribution Facility will feature all the equipment needed to move bulk and packaged product between rail cars and truck trailers for both first- and last-mile shipments. The facility will offer storage and warehousing services, hopper transfers, rail car/trailer washing and more. It will support industries covering everything from packaging and plastics recycling to chemicals.

“Union Pacific is proud to partner with Custom on its new transload terminal, providing local businesses access to rail, the most environmentally responsible way to move freight over land,” said McLaughlin. “The terminal also supports growth for the Longview regional economy and strengthens Union Pacific’s position in key markets.”
