Glendale, CA Uber & Lyft Car Accident Injury Lawyer: Legal Services Announced

Babaians Law Firm (818-747-9113) has updated its legal representation services for pedestrians injured in a car accident involving a vehicle operating for a rideshare service, such as Uber or Lyft.

The Glendale law firm’s recently announced legal support for pedestrians involved in car accidents with rideshare vehicles comes in response to statistics showing that 90% of Uber accidents occur in urban areas. As these areas are frequented by pedestrians, it follows that third-party injuries form the majority of claims for rideshare accidents.

Pedestrians who are injured have the legal right to file a personal injury claim, however, Babaians advises that this can be more complicated when considering a case with a rideshare driver. With the announcement, the firm encourages pedestrians who have been injured by rideshare vehicles to schedule a case review.

California laws require rideshare drivers to clearly display their company badges on their vehicles when working, however, the majority of drivers fail to remove them when “off the clock”. This can create uncertainty for third parties, including pedestrians, who are involved in an accident with a car displaying an Uber or Lyft badge.

“When you are injured, your priority should always be to seek medical attention and you might not be able to get all the relevant driver information,” says a lawyer for Babaians. “If you or a witness later states it was an Uber or Lyft driver who hit you, the police and your legal team are immediately going to ask whether they were on duty. But how can you know for sure? The rideshare company will launch their own investigation, but having a lawyer who has experience in this area can help ensure you don’t miss out on the compensation you are entitled to.”

If the driver was actively working, Babaians explains, then the rideshare company is also liable for any personal injury claim. Both Uber and Lyft have a financial reserve to compensate third parties for injuries caused by their driver’s negligence.

Conversely, when a rideshare badge is displayed but the driver was not logged into the app or registered to accept rides, the responsibility for any injuries caused rests solely on the driver. Los Angeles requires all drivers operating in the city to carry commercial insurance, Babaians states, therefore, injured pedestrians can still sue to cover the costs of their recovery.
