Snupit, the online marketplace designed to connect customers with professionals and businesses, has experienced a surge in new members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Businesses across South Africa have turned to various means of connecting with customers online during the pandemic, including joining online marketplaces like Snupit. Snupit is well-positioned to continue serving its users throughout 2021. Over the last year, the site has continually matched customers and professionals, offering a lifeline for many during a difficult time.

Avinash Samlall, Snupit’s Founder and CEO, offered his thoughts: “These are tough times and we are very much aware of how Snupit’s services are translating into hope for so many people and businesses across South Africa. Around twenty thousand new businesses joined us and we’re close to half a million [businesses].”

Approximately 20,000 new businesses joined Snupit in 2020, with more than 440,000 businesses in total now using the platform. During this time, 10,000 reviews were left for businesses and professionals on the site, with Snupit committing to growing the use of the review function to better help both customers and businesses. Customers looking for local services requested around 500,000 quotes in 2020. Most of these quotes resulted in assistance from the Pros on Snupit, with the total value of work estimated at around R 1 billion.

Commenting on these statistics, Mr. Samlall said, “These are some very encouraging numbers. And we feel a great sense of accomplishment as behind every number is a professional or business we have empowered. The pandemic has further highlighted Snupit’s goal and commitment of giving people the power to earn more. From survival to growth, we’re proud to play a role in financial betterment for every Pro listed with us.”

Many businesses are still feeling the effects of COVID-19 in 2021, even with vaccination programs rolling out across the world. Snupit understands that the digital landscape is more important than ever, helping businesses to remain connected to their customers and to each other in a time when in-person contact is difficult. The company will be continuing to improve the platform and the services on offer to ensure businesses and professionals are able to secure new customers and projects.
