The Town Of Dennis Launches Wastewater Education

By: Get News
“Wastewater Wednesday” to define town’s water quality efforts.

Dennis, Massachusetts – The Town of Dennis announces the launch of a public education outreach effort to clarify the scientifically intricate terminology and complex environmental protection systems that make up Dennis’ ongoing commitment to comprehensive water quality programming for its residents. “Wastewater Wednesday,” a weekly informational about water quality topics in Dennis on social media, will serve as voice for the re-examination of many of the terms, existing efforts, and future aspects of this undertaking.

Water quality information sessions have remained less accessible in committee meetings and in-person presentations. Wastewater Wednesday will address the desire of our whole community and provide more information to increase understanding of water quality issues and highlight the results of Dennis’ efforts. Water quality management is a multi-generational problem; therefore, advocacy is being broadened to include a multi-generational audience.

With renewed energy directed at education and engagement to younger residents and families with school age children, content from the Wastewater Wednesday profile will be made accessible across mainstream social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter. Families will be able to educate themselves and their children about the importance of clean water in Dennis.

“Dennis’ outreach on this subject has largely been done through conventional public, in-person gatherings, which will continue, but with the restrictions and reluctance to attend gatherings brought about by the pandemic, we have been planning to add this additional resource and speak to more Dennis residents online, where they already receive other town communication,” said Select Board member, Paul McCormick.

Beginning this Fall, each week, Wastewater Wednesday will give residents access to information in ways to increase their range and ease of understanding, to begin a new dialogue with the community and build a lasting, fact-based resource of requisite hydrological engineering concepts. Through this effort by the Wastewater Implementation Committee (WIC) and the Dennis Select Board, water quality in Dennis will remain protected and so too the health of future generations, our economy, our property, and our environment.

It’s no mystery why protecting Dennis’ water resources is important to year-round residents, our children, and seasonal visitors. Dennis, Massachusetts is blessed with expansive public beachfront, supports many boating and fishing activities, and draws visitors to our shores and businesses who relish eating our seafood and enjoying a wide range of family activities centered around our scenic saltwater and freshwater bodies of water. #onewaterdennis
