Conference returns to in-person at historic D.C. site, offers growth opportunities for creatives

WASHINGTON - Aug. 2, 2022 - PRLog -- The DC Music Summit (DCMS), an award-winning 501(c)(3) non-profit, today announced its fifth annual music conference, which will be held in person October 14–16, 2022, at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. Register here through Aug. 15 for the early-bird rate.

The conference host site, the esteemed Duke Ellington School of the Arts, is a historic creative hub that nurtures talented youth within the D.C. community in the spirit of its legendary namesake. DCMS supports seasoned, independent, emerging, and new artists, and Summit participants from all backgrounds will be equipped with strategies for building and strengthening a sustainable creative career.

DCMS has a proud history of accelerating the careers of independent musicians, with a focus on women, communities of color, and other underrepresented groups. Since 2016, DCMS has served hundreds of individuals each year at its Summit, bringing together musicians, industry professionals, and influencers to advance the D.C. creative scene.

"Talk about a full circle moment," said Dior Ashley Brown, DCMS founder and award-winning hip-hop artist. "I'm so proud to be an alumna of such an esteemed school as Duke Ellington, and what an honor to return to my alma mater in celebration of a milestone year for DCMS. The theme of this year's Summit is 'Foundation.' Our programming will empower artists to reconnect with their center and learn to make a career out of what they love."

Summit participants have the option to attend the three-day event or create a custom schedule based on an array of programming, including workshops, information sessions, industry panels, networking opportunities, and live performances by some of the biggest names in the local scene.

Last month, Duke Ellington School of the Arts announced the dedication of its new student arts space: the Theatre for Artistic Freedom & Expression. Three-time Grammy Award-winning and five-time Emmy Award-winning stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chapelle, a Duke Ellington alumnus, this year in June presented an Netflix special, announcing the new name of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts theatre.

Individuals interested in securing a spot as a presenter or panelist are invited to submit a proposal here by Aug. 15. Artists are invited to apply to perform at the 2022 Summit here by Aug. 15. Additional details to follow.
