Same-store sales move up by 7.6%

São Paulo, Brazil, April 16, 2007. Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição [NYSE: CBD; BOVESPA: PCAR4 (PN)] announces its March 2007 sales performance (unaudited preliminary figures). The information presented below was calculated based on consolidated figures and in Reais, in accordance with the Brazilian Corporate Law.

The Pão de Açúcar Group’s March performance reflected the results of the strategies and efforts employed to boost sales levels. The huge emphasis given to the Sales Incentive Campaign, in particular, has led to consistent growth in recent months.

March’s gross sales totaled R$1,447.0 million, 8.9% up year-on-year, while net sales stood at R$1,225.8 million, up by 9.7% year-on-year. Same store sales grew by 7.6% in gross terms and by 8.4% in net terms compared to the same period in the previous year. All banners reported strong growth this month, especially Pão de Açúcar and CompreBem. Customer traffic has been growing since September 2006.

Food products did particularly well, climbing by 8.8%, led by groceries and perishables. Sales of non-food products rose by 3.5% despite the exceptionally strong comparative base provided by March/06, when sales increased by 17.1% year-on-year thanks to the World Cup effect.

The Group’s first-quarter gross sales totaled R$4,168.0 million, 6.2% up on the 1Q06, while net sales climbed 6.8% to R$3,530.3 million. Gross and net same store sales moved up 4.8% and 5.6% year-on-year, respectively.

Statements included in this report regarding the Company’s business prospects, the outlook for operating and financial results, and referring to the Company’s growth potential are merely projections and were based on Management’s expectations regarding the Company’s future.
