Bird Soars to New Heights with Remarkable Summer Ridership

Bird riders clocked nearly 16 million miles over the summer season with 11 million rides taken; 1.2 million new users turned to micromobility to get around

Bird Global, Inc. (NYSE:BRDS), a leader in environmentally friendly electric transportation, today reported ridership results from the 2023 summer season. From June 1st through September 3rd, Bird riders clocked in nearly 16 million total miles – equivalent to circling the earth over 600 times.

“This has been another incredible summer for Bird as we’ve expanded our reach, improved accessibility, and contributed to a greener, more connected world. Our ridership figures are a testament to the dedication of our riders as well as the hard work of our global team,” said Stewart Lyons, President of Bird Global. “We are proud to play a pivotal role in contributing to hundreds of cities’ sustainability goals while making alternative transportation convenient, efficient, and fun.”

Over the course of the summer, Bird provided its micromobility solutions to over 2.3 million unique riders across 350+ cities around the globe, equating to more than 11 million total rides. Bird also introduced its e-scooters and e-bikes to a staggering 1.2 million new riders, further cementing its leadership position in sustainable urban mobility.

“One of the most fascinating aspects of this summer's performance is the incredible loyalty shown by Bird riders,” added Lyons. “A remarkable 18% of all riders have ridden 100 times or more, demonstrating the long-term value of Bird's solutions.”

Other summer highlights include:

  • Peak periods of summer ridership occurred during the 4th of July holiday, the weekend of July 14-16th, in mid- August during back-to-school, and on Labor Day weekend.
  • While tourism contributed greatly to summer ridership, markets including New York City and Newark, NJ saw more than 70% of rides coming from locals.
  • The top ridership markets across North America include Los Angeles, Calgary, Atlanta, Austin, Seattle, Nashville, New York City and San Diego.
  • Internationally, the top markets include Tel Aviv, Rome, Helsinki, Marseille, Antwerp, Tbilisi, and Zurich.
