Rochester, MN - January 10, 2023 - Pneumeric Inc., developers of the CAPNOSPOT, a disposable medical device that allows visual detection of gases during decompression by detection of CO2, has launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on MicroVentures. Pneumeric plans to use funds from the raise to increase market presence and research and development.
"We were doing needle decompressions in the trauma bay. We realized that we were basically guessing if we had done the procedure correctly. We realized that if we were doing that in the hospital, it had to be worse in the ambulance. We researched it, and it was worse. We said we could make this procedure safer and more effective," says CEO and Chief Medical Officer John Aho MD, Ph.D.
Traumatic chest injuries can cause tension pneumothorax, which occurs when pressurized gas builds up in the pleural cavity. During traumatic air leaks, this gas buildup results in death due to a gas buildup. By performing needle thoracostomy, tension pneumothoraxes can be rapidly decompressed to restore cardiac filling and pressure equilibration. While the technique appears simple, it remains difficult for field providers to confirm therapeutic decompression rapidly. Pneumeric, Inc. has developed the Capnospot, a disposable medical device that allows visual detection of gases during decompression by detecting CO2.
"Our simple yet innovative device is a significant improvement over the current method for needle thoracostomy. This simple, inexpensive-to-manufacture device has clear applicability for first responders and trauma casualty caregivers, supplying rapid visual feedback to save lives", states Dr. Aho.
About Pneumeric, Inc:
Pneumeric, Inc, is a leading medical device manufacturer. Pneumeric, Inc has developed the Capnospot, a colorimetric capnography device with the potential to provide visual, objective, real-time feedback about needle placement during decompression. Specifically, the device indicates the presence of CO2 in the air from the decompressed pneumothorax, which allows for accurate needle placement. Pneumeric, Inc aims to advance emergency point-of-care therapy to confirm tension pneumothorax decompression while creating value for its patients, clinicians, and hospital administrators.
