Having taught higher education for over 30 years, Dr. Curl-Langager previously spent five years as an educator at Utah State University beginning in 1986, serving as a research assistant professor in the special education department and as an adjunct associate professor in the psychology department.
A talented writer, Dr. Curl-Langager recently completed a 12-chapter psychology textbook on adulthood, which will be accompanied by an instructor's manual. The book is titled "Adulthood: An Introduction," and the manual will be titled "Instructor's Manual for Adulthood: An Introduction," released via Routledge Taylor & Francis Group.
As a scholar, Dr. Curl-Langager previously authored chapters in several books. She has also published various manuscripts, reports, manuals and other publications, co-authored numerous scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, and was a reviewer and guest reviewer for multiple professional publications.
Moreover, Dr. Curl-Langager has served as director for many projects, including the North Dakota Project for Persons with Developmental Disabilities and Encore: An Entrepreneurial Model Utilizing Nonprofessional Co-Workers as Sources of Employment Support.
Dr. Curl-Langager graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, cum laude, from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1974 and a Master of Science in child development and family relationships from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1976. She also received a Doctor of Philosophy in developmental and child psychology from the University of Kansas in Lawrence in 1982. Additionally, Dr. Curl-Langager received an elementary education teaching certificate for grades K-9.
Aligned with several professional organizations supporting her career, Dr. Curl-Langager has been active as a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science and the Gerontological Society of America. She was also a presidential candidate, chairperson and task force member of several Society for the Teaching of Psychology committees and a member of the aging work group for the American Association of University Affiliated Programs.
In addition to securing numerous grants for her work and serving as a principal investigator for nine of them, Dr. Curl-Langager has received several accolades, including an Award for Outstanding Research Presentation from the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy and a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Poster Presentation from the Association for Behavior Analysis. Dr. Curl-Langager also received recognition as Exchangite of the Year by the Minot Exchange Club for her tenures as a former president and president-elect.
