Canton McKinley High School Uses Politics to Teach Children How to Win Unjustly
CANTON, Ohio - April 27, 2022 - PRLog -- As a mother who has followed football for over 30 years of my life I am appalled at the politics now ruling the Sports in High School settings. Canton McKinley High School was supposed to be one of the highly respected and valued football programs in America. They were so well known and respected that even in Los Vegas, Nevada bets were taken for their rivalry games against Massillon High School.
Last year Canton McKinley High School took it upon themselves to become politically involved in the take down of its first African American Head Coach, Marcus Wattley. This was the second opportunity in his career to be the first African American Head Coach first being St. Vincent/St Mary High School. Nearing twenty years of coaching experience Wattley found it to be an honor and privilege to coach at Canton McKinley Highschool to only learn politics dominate this school as he and five assistant coaches were terminated by their Board without merited reasons.
The false claims for such execution was based on a false accusation that Coach Wattley and his assistant coaches forced a troubled player to eat pork against his will which supposedly was against his religion. Instead of considering this to be a false allegation the school used this player's experience to gut out a thriving football program that the players were prospering from on and off the field.
Nearing a year after false allegations no charges and evidence finding the allegations to be true have been proven. These coaches have been defamed while Canton McKinley replaced them with people they always wanted running the football program, one of them being someone who applied for the job when Wattley applied but had no experience and did not qualify but suddenly after the removal of Wattley instantly qualified.
The priorities of high school sports have been placed in the hands of politics. Coaches today run the risk of being defamed if they do not engage in politics. These coaches was creating a foundation for the boys to prosper in the future. Canton McKinley wasn't having it. I cannot help but wonder if it is a place of hidden oppression. How do a Board wipe out six coaches' careers with stellar records and no past discretions over one false allegation? Why was this their end game?https://www.facebook.com/linda.wattley
