Federated Department Stores, Inc. ("Federated"), today posted the following weekly sales update on its Internet website: |

"This is the update for the fourth week of March 2003 including sales from Sunday March 23rd through Saturday March 29th. The five week fiscal month of March runs from March 2nd through April 5th this year. |

Sales continued soft in the fourth week and while it is still very difficult to read trends, our estimate now for the month of March as a whole is for comp store sales to be down in the range of -6 to -7%." |
