September’s meeting will be held on the 18th and will feature a guest appearance by audiology specialist Dr. Carrie Scarff. During the meeting, she will share insights into new findings regarding how hearing and brain plasticity are related, as well as strategies to prevent tinnitus and other disorders.

Dr. Scarff’s appearance will continue Prostaid’s recent mission, which has been to expand the advice and insights they share beyond the realm of prostate cancer into associated fields and beyond. In this way, they hope to further participants’ understanding of the body and health overall, encouraging a model of care that is more complete and comprehensive as a result.

This formal meeting will be conducted in addition to the regular support meetings held by Postaid for the caregivers and spouses of prostate cancer patients. Those meetings are announced on a regular basis and are conducted in person at the CKE Community Centre near Chinook Park.

The overall mission of Prostaid is to educate and encourage Calgary locals about the warning signs of prostate cancer, innovations in treatment, and how and where to get tested. To that end, they also publish a newsletter detailing recent developments in the field and other relevant news which can be subscribed to on the organization’s website.

The organization’s mission statement is as follows, “Our objective is to assist and support patients, families and friends by informing, empathizing and reassuring men on their journey with prostate cancer. By sharing our experiences with our own cancer we lift our spirits and strengthen our resolve to fight for quality of life and a cure.”

Those interested in RSVPing for the September meeting featuring Dr. Carrie Scarff and led by organization president Brad Sterling can do so at the link below. There, interested parties will also find a wealth of free resources and links to other relevant educational materials.
