St. Paul’s Plaza Promotes Active Living with Senior Olympic Games

San Diego, California, United States, 16th Aug 2024 St. Paul’s Plaza, an active retirement community in Chula Vista, teamed up with Kids Depot of Otay Ranch to host an intergenerational “Senior Olympic Games” in its Mathes Community Center. Inspired by the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the event welcomed twelve children from Kids Depot to compete alongside residents from the community’s independent living, assisted living, and memory care programs to promote health and wellness across all ages.

Fitness Coordinator Janet Blair spearheaded the games, aiming to create a day filled with excitement and friendly competition. All activities were designed to accommodate individuals of all ages and physical abilities, ranging from relay races and cornhole to adapted bowling and bag tosses. The day culminated in the ceremonial passing of the “Olympic Torch,” followed by the distribution of gold medals to all participants.

“Living life to the fullest at any age means staying engaged, happy, and motivated,” said Blair. “Intergenerational events like this bring out the best in everyone and create countless new connections in our community.”

The Senior Olympic Games at St. Paul’s Plaza were just one example of the community’s ongoing efforts to keep seniors energized and active. One resident exclaimed, “I had so much fun racing against the kids. They were so excited to be in these games and looked so pleased when they got their medals!”
