Nadya Okamoto Opens up About Borderline Personality Disorder This Mental Health Awareness Month; Host of Tigress, the Podcast

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / May 18, 2021 / Nadya Okamoto, the period advocate, author of the book PERIOD POWER, and founder and CEO of August, a lifestyle period-focused brand, has been opening up more about her own mental health over the last few months. Across her podcast, titled Tigress, and her own social media pages, she is starting to share a lot more about her background of living with PTSD and BPD. In a recent episode, she spoke with model Erin McCarthy about their shared diagnosis with BPD. This episode comes after the last few in her series including interviews with other prominent authors and speakers.

Okamoto has been in the spotlight for several years now for her work advocating for menstrual equity and against the period stigma. Her focus has included more about mental health over the last few years, especially since the #metoo movement rose to more prominence as well. She is open about her experience as a survivor of sexual assault and been an example of how to meaningfully use one's platform for advocacy. In her modeling career, she's been bold about making sure that something about mental health or gender equality is always in the campaigns she is featured in. More of her modeling pictures can be found in her website portfolio.

"I was all about work. I didn't really have a social life. I would forget to go to the bathroom…That, for me, was being a workaholic, and I'm not proud of that," says Okamoto in a recent interview with Brianna Holt for medium publication, Gen series. During this month, Mental Health Awareness Month, we are all inspired by the work Nadya is doing to share her story to destigmatize mental health. You can find more of her writing about wellness and mental health on aSweatLife too, a publication that focuses on health and wellness for their audience of mostly young millennial women.

We are definitely keeping our eye on Generation Z leader, Nadya Okamoto, as we head into the future! Things that she has hinted at being in the works:

  • Her company, August, is launching period care this Spring. You can read more about their work on their website or in the Today Show article published about her and her co-founder. They've spent the last few months really building out their community and awareness on social media, and recently released the educational platform, ask august.
  • She is coming back with more episodes in her Tigress podcast: and we've heard rumors that their behind-the-scenes team is expanding as they work to bring on more guests and increase the cadence of episodes.
  • Nadya Okamoto has been a lot more active on other social media platforms like Pinterest as well, who recently commissioned her to create educational content in honor of Asian Heritage Month. Nadya is half Japanese and half Chinese and has been wildly outspoken in advocating for the #stopasianhate movement.
  • Nadya Okamoto is also continuing to rise to prominence on audio-focused apps like Clubhouse. She shared recently on her Instagram story that she reached 42,000 followers after being on the platform for only a few months. She doesn't host her own rooms often, but is active in various rooms surrounding generation z marketing, gender equality, and talking about entrepreneurship. With this wave of audio-focused apps like Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces, Stereo, and more, we are eager to see how Nadya continues using these apps.
