Santa Claus Arrives via Helicopter to Deliver Presents at the Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) 34th Annual Toys & Joy Holiday Celebration

1000 patients and their families will receive toys for the holiday and experience a snowy afternoon

The Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) is excited to announce the 34th annual Toys & Joy holiday celebration which will be held at the historic downtown Los Angeles, Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children on Wednesday, December 6 from 10am – 1pm. The Toys & Joy celebration first began to encourage holistic health and foster the spirit of community by ensuring that patients and their siblings receive toys and gifts to enjoy the holiday. The 112-year-old, nonprofit organization strongly believes that community support and collective kindness is an integral part of a patient’s care and healing.

With the help of the LAPD SWAT team, Santa will fly across the Los Angeles sky in a helicopter to the LuskinOIC campus, which will be transformed into a snowy Winter Wonderland. Santa will then rappel down to the LuskinOIC Institute wall to take photos and meet and greet participants with Mrs. Claus while Santa’s helpers distribute gifts to 1,000 patients and families. The morning will include opening remarks by Councilmember Curren D. Price and be an unforgettable celebration of fun, games, arts & crafts, and an LA Galaxy Star Squad experience.

LuskinOIC is a mission-driven organization that provides high-quality care for children with musculoskeletal injuries and disorders and advances patient-centered care worldwide. It also actively promotes medical education and scientific research in orthopaedics. In partnership with UCLA Health, LuskinOIC stands as the largest provider of pediatric orthopaedic care on the West Coast, receives more than 60,000 patient visits each year, and offers pro-bono treatment to patients in Calexico and Mexicali, among other cities worldwide.

LuskinOIC treasures ending the year by bringing joy to the community that is dearest to them – their patients and families. More than 93% of their patients are underinsured, so the organization makes sure their holistic care includes warmth, happy surprises, and community support. LuskinOIC endeavors to deliver timely expert care to socioeconomically disadvantaged children.

“Our mission is to advance health equity for every child in Los Angeles and beyond, shares Michael Sullivan, Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer at LuskinOIC. “The specialty care children receive depends on the generosity of visionary donors and dedicated sponsors who think no child should go without the healthcare they need and deserve. This event would not be possible without our wonderful donors who include the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Automobile Club of Southern California, Clear Channel, The Book Foundation, Tyler Skaggs Foundation, LA Galaxy, Project Sunshine, Orthopaedic Medical Magnet High School, UCLA & USC sororities and fraternities, LuskinOIC's support groups, and the LAPD SWAT team.”
