Item 5.02. Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.
On December 31, 2010, Dr. Floyd Loop notified Athersys, Inc. (the “Company”) that he was resigning as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. Dr. Loop served on the Nominations and Corporate Governance Committee of the Board. Dr. Loop’s decision to resign was not the result of any disagreement with the Company. Dr. Loop will continue to provide advisory services as a consultant to the Company.
