First Tech Federal Credit Union Underwrites 'Paint The Future' NFT Mural Event, including live music, spoken word and comedy acts
PORTLAND, Ore. - Sept. 13, 2021 - PRLog -- The Paint the Future NFT Mural event in Northeast Portland has finalized a four-hour lineup of entertainment to include local and BIPOC musicians, spoken word artists and comedians. The event has also secured artists and vendors to ensure attendees are engaged as funds are raised for Friends of the Children – Portland. The September 25 event is underwritten by Title Sponsor, First Tech Federal Credit Union.
The "19/19" mural is an acknowledgement of Portland's history of segregation and displacement of indigenous peoples and more recently, black residents, who were barred from buying real estate in white neighborhoods in 1919. Consisting of 38 colored squares in a grid format, the 30' by 60' mural will be painted by volunteers over a daylong event (from 10 am to 4 pm) at 310 NE Failing St. The event, and accompanying website are meant to educate the community as well as provide calls-to-action to help make Portland a more inclusive and inspiring city.
The daylong event provides an opportunity for the local community to help paint the future, together. To help raise funds, attendees will be able to purchase a poster of the mural as well as food and beverages from Alberta Street Pub, Vera James Kitchen and Hana's Snowballs. Local retailers like Mimi's Fresh Tee's will sell wares and donate a percentage of proceeds to Friends of the Children – Portland. The week following the event, bidders have an opportunity to purchase the digital rights to the mural via a non-fungible token (NFT).
The entertainment lineup, which will start at noon and run until 4 pm, will include the following performers: Timothy Demar, DJ Doc Roc, Ro Deezy, The Hug Dealer, Freddy Trujillo, Rissa Riss, Black Butterfly, Mic Crenshaw, G Wade, Brianna Renae and Arietta Ward. A full agenda is available on the website.
While the mural will be painted by the community, professional artists like Christian Téllez (AKA WESI) and Edmund Holmes (AKA Mundo) will create digital artwork to augment the NFT.
The website (www.nftmural.org) provides more details behind the overall Concept, including ways to Educate and Inspire. Although the event is free to all attendees, face masks are required and vaccinations are highly encouraged.
The event, mural and accompanying NFT fundraiser was made possible with significant help from the following strategic partners: Anvil Media, Hovers Over Water, Henry V and NDUB BRAND. Additional support was provided by the following organizations: FullGV, Sheikhly Law Firm and Veritas Business Law.
