Ms. Carrington, Northwell’s senior vice president and chief people officer, is being honored for her work as an innovative and transformative leader, who has been instrumental in establishing Northwell’s framework of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Most recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic and Northwell’s declaration of racism as a public health crisis, Ms. Carrington spearheaded organization-wide DEI dialogue, allotted resources and accelerated action through leadership training for DEI conversations, systemic racism/bias education and enhanced diversity dashboards. Ms. Carrington has also been instrumental in integrating DEI best practices and hiring diverse talent.

“I am incredibly honored to be among so many successful, passionate and influential women,” said Ms. Carrington. “Now, more than ever, advancing diversity, equity and inclusion is critical to delivering on Northwell Health’s organizational mission and goals. Together, we are working tirelessly to galvanize our collective vision, voice and advocacy in this space.”

Since joining Northwell in 2008, she has established a culture of collaboration and mentorship, providing Northwell’s women leaders with opportunities for engagement and advancement and successfully driven team member engagement and development within Northwell.

“As an integral member of Northwell’s executive leadership team, Maxine’s voice and experience has been invaluable in shaping the direction Northwell is heading,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “Our focus on caring for our people has been at the forefront these past two years in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and under Maxine’s leadership we have increased our efforts to support the well-being of our 78,000 team members.”
