Jefferson County (Fla.) School District K-2nd Grade Students Using Age of Learning’s My Math Academy and My Reading Academy Experienced Significant Increases in Assessment Scores

Study Highlights Evidence that Age of Learning’s Programs Contribute to the District’s Turnaround Success

Age of Learning, the leading education technology innovator and creator of the widely popular ABCmouse® Early Learning Academy, today released two new ESSA-validated research reports that found Jefferson County (Fla.) School District Kindergarten – 2nd grade students using My Math Academy and My Reading Academy experienced significant increases in their assessment scores for the 2022-2023 school year. Key findings include:

  • Using My Math Academy was related to statistically significant increases in kindergarten students’ assessment scores, after controlling for students’ fall scores and their grade levels.
  • Using My Reading Academy was related to statistically significant increases in 2nd grade students’ assessment scores, after controlling for students’ fall scores and their grade levels.
  • STAR Math assessment results showed that students using My Math Academy for an average of 12 hours reached levels equivalent to the next grade in math.
  • STAR Early Literacy assessment results showed that students using My Reading Academy for an average of 14 hours reached levels equivalent to the next grade in reading.
  • All educators reported that My Math Academy and My Reading Academy had a positive impact on their students’ math and reading skills.

The results highlight the effects of Age of Learning’s personalized digital learning programs on student achievement and on educators’ capacity to provide effective instruction for their young learners. The results reflect usage of Age of Learning programs by almost 200 kids across 11 kindergarten through second grade classrooms during the 2022-23 school year. The Jefferson County School District continues to use My Math Academy and My Reading Academy in the current 2023-24 school year.

Educators in Jefferson County School District who used the programs reported on end-of-year surveys that My Math Academy and My Reading Academy had a positive impact on their students’ math and reading skills. They also indicated the programs’ positive impact on students’ confidence and enjoyment in learning math and reading.

Moreover, 93 percent of educators indicated that the programs empowered their work, for example, a 2nd grade teacher said, “The program helped me pinpoint my students’ strengths and weaknesses,” and “It has helped address gaps that I otherwise may not be able to with such varied students.”
