Kaplan University’s Lincoln Campus Launches Medical Transcription Associate Degree Program

The Kaplan University Lincoln campus is now enrolling for its new medical transcription associate degree program.

The 18-month program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits to pursue a wide variety of entry-level positions in the medical transcription field, including those available in a hospital, clinic or physician’s office.

“The medical and health care fields are constantly evolving,” said Dr. Sandra Muskopf, president of Kaplan University’s Lincoln campus. “We will continue to offer programs that lead to fulfilling careers in those industries.”

According to the Occupational Projections, a report by the Nebraska Department of Workforce Development, Research and Analysis Division, medical transcription positions are expected to increase by 24 percent between 2006 and 2016.

The medical transcription program emphasizes self-discipline and ethical standards. Students will have the opportunity to learn typing accuracy, speed and competency with the software applications most commonly used in medical transcription.

The new degree program expands the Lincoln campus’s allied health offerings. Current offerings include an associate degree in medical assisting and a bachelor’s degree in health science.

Kaplan University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
