Cracker Barrel Breakfast “Best” in 2010 Zagat Consumer Survey

Head to Cracker Barrel Old Country Store for the best breakfast available at a full-service chain restaurant, according to the prestigious Zagat survey released this week. Over 6,500 regular chain restaurant diners shared their opinions on 39 full-service restaurants in the most recent Zagat Fast Food Survey, and they selected Cracker Barrel as having the best breakfast.

“It was a great honor to receive this independent validation that we are succeeding in our mission of ‘pleasing people’,” said Cracker Barrel Chairman, President and CEO Michael A. Woodhouse. “Our guests come to Cracker Barrel expecting a great experience and the results from this consumer survey show that the efforts of our 66 thousand employees are having a tremendous impact.”

Woodhouse said that he was glad to get this news, especially since Restaurants & Institutions magazine discontinued operations earlier this year and did not conduct its annual Choice in Chains consumer study, in which Cracker Barrel had been selected as the Best Family Dining Restaurant in America for 19 consecutive years.

In last year’s Zagat survey, Cracker Barrel came in at second place in the breakfast category, so Woodhouse was glad to see the popular family dining chain take top honors for the category this year. “This Zagat survey confirms that our strategy is exactly in line with what consumers want: quality food and outstanding service in a pleasant environment, rather than price-driven promotions,” Woodhouse added. “While our competitors offer discounts and 2-for-1s, our employees have remained focused on improving the guest experience and our guests have rewarded us for that, not only through this survey, but through their continued loyalty and repeat visitation,” he said.

The Zagat survey is the third national research study in which Cracker Barrel has received top scores this summer. In July, the company reported that the Consumer Brand Metrics Program study, conducted by Technomic, Inc., shows that consumers rate Cracker Barrel at the top of the list among ten full-service restaurants in the casual and family dining segments. Cracker Barrel was rated the best in these categories: Overall Attributes and Attitudes, Appearance and Ambiance, and Convenience and Takeout.

And earlier this month, the esteemed market research firm J.D. Power and Associates issued survey results that ranked Cracker Barrel as the number one family dining restaurant in five markets nationally, and as the only concept in any segment to receive top scores in that many cities.
