Unemployment Claims Rise to 500,000, the Worst in 2010

The number of U.S. workers filing new claims for jobless benefits rose by 12,000 to 500,000 in the week ended Aug. 14, the highest number in nine months, Labor Department figures showed. The 4-week moving average was 482,500, an increase of 8,000 from the previous week’s revised average of 474,500.
