Dog Training May Be Easier Than You Think

Fundamentally, dog training is about communication. From the human perspective, the trainer is communicating to the dog what behaviors are desired. But not all dog trainers really understand this. Read the article below to discover more.

A trainer must understand communication from the dog. The dog can signal that he is unsure, confused, nervous, happy, excited, and so on. The emotional state of the dog is an important consideration in directing the training, as a dog that is stressed or distracted will not learn efficiently.

Don't get frustrated. There will surely be times in your dog behavior training that you aren't going to like how things are going. If this happens, stop the training session right away. Your frustration can cause you to want to force the issue and end up taking two steps backward with your progress.

Don't forget to praise your dog. Dog training should be fun for both you and your dog. Give your dog plenty of praise for performing correct behaviors. Dog training by nature is oppressive; you are asking your dog to submit his will to yours. This can create stress. Praise is a great way to alleviate that stress. A stress-free dog learns quicker and has more fun.

Positive reinforcements can be anything that the dog finds rewarding - special food treats, the chance to play with a tug toy, social interaction with other dogs, or the owner's attention. The more rewarding a dog finds a particular trainer, the more work he will be prepared to do in order to please the trainer. Just being happy about a dog's accomplishment is often reward enough for them.

So, I guess the moral of the story goes something like this. Patience and diligence is often all you need to properly train you dog. And the earlier you start, the better.
