Cat dandruff is a common cat skin problem, but what you didn't know is how serious a condition it could represent. Read the article below to learn more.

The character of dandruff is dry, itchy, and flaky skin that manifest into dandruff. It can cause real worries for the owner. To deal with the dandruff is quite easy; some simple home remedies can do the job well. However, to be effectively treated dandruff requires patience and knowledge to know what cause it in the first place. The easiest symptom of cat dandruff to spot is the cat usually scratches their skin more often than usual. And the rest of this article would be talking about cat dandruff treatment based on the cause.

Skin Allergies

Poor Nutrition

Poor nutrition can cause dandruff, cheap cat food that probably misses some nutrient are major culprit. Switching your cat food with high quality food is a good solution, canned tuna for example. It has high Omega 3 fatty acid is a good alternatives for high quality food without too much expense. It also can clear dandruff within days because omega 3 deficiency is a major cause of the dandruff.

Some food supplement are also advisable, fish oil is a good supplement for cat. More than just eliminate the skin problem, the supplement also help your cat to grow better hair. Choose food with more moisture instead of dry food is good idea since the cat naturally drink less than they need. And giving them too much dry food can contribute in less fluid in their body and skin. However over exposure to the sun can also cause dry skin in cat, especially during summer. To avoid this, simply ensure you keep your cat indoor between 10 AM to 4 PM.

Parasite Infection

When the dandruff won't easily go, then the reason may be parasite infection. Parasite infection can cause persistent dandruff problem. If your lovely cat gets caught by this pest, probably your best bet is to contact your local vet.

Obesity

Believe it or not, obesity does play a role in cat dandruff. For cat dandruff mostly come in tail, rump or lower back. A normal or skinny cat can groom themselves and clean the dandruff before it spread or licking it to give some extra moisture. While an overweight cat would find it difficult so they prefer to rub themselves against the wall or some other object. As an overweight cat risking themselves into less moisture and less proper self grooming, they have bigger risk of getting dandruff.

The only way to help your cat is to force a weight loss diet.
Obviously cat dandruff needs to be treated, but I guess the biggest thing that I took away from this article, is that it may mean there is a bigger problem that needs to be addressed.
