It is better to clip a small amount of the nails on a regular basis rather than a large amount with extended waiting in between. Praise your dog with a treat after this part of the dog grooming process to help them learn not to be afraid. By praising, your dog or pet does not have as much anxiety.

Toothbrushes

Brushing your pet’s teeth does not have to be a daunting task. If your dog squirms during the process, try using toothpaste that is made for dogs. Prior to brushing with the toothpaste, give the dog a taste of it from your finger. This allows the dog to get accustomed to the taste before going through this part of pet grooming. Also, beginning early in age helps your pet get accustomed to this process.

Ear Cleaning

Ear cleaning is a part of the pet grooming process that is easily forgotten. Although this is the case, ear cleaning is a task that should be completed on a regular basis as part of maintenance for your pet’s health. If you are cleaning the ears yourself, make sure to keep the swabs and fingers where you can see them. Only trained veterinarians should be able to go deeper into the ear without hurting the pet. Try to avoid alcohol-based ear cleaners as these dry out the ear very quickly.

Fleas

There are various types of fleas that can become latched onto a pet. Other than using flea shampoo, you can also use flea combs. Flea combs allow the hair of your pet to pass through while catching and removing the fleas. These tools are extremely effective on the suppression of adult fleas. Also, make sure to wash the bedding of your pet frequently.

Shedding

A shedding blade is used to remove dead hair from some types of harsh coats. It is not used to cut the hair, but is made with a metal blade that has short, dull teeth. Make sure to remove any excess hair prior to shampooing the pet. If the dead hair is not removed prior to shampooing or wetting the pet’s coat, tangling can occur. If tangling occurs, this can result in hair loss and thinning of the coat when trying to detangle any knots.

There is a lot know regarding dog grooming, more so than it than it may seem at first. But what should be taken away from this information at least would be that dog grooming is an essential part to maintaining a healthy pet and shouldn't be taken lightly or disregarded.
