Microsoft says it plans to issue an update for Windows Phone 8 next month, to fix a random rebooting problem that can affect the OS.

Earlier this month Windows Phone forum users started complaining that random reboots were affecting WP8 handsets such as the HTC 8X. Some Lumia 920 users also complained about their device freezing during use — but that seems to be a separate issue which Nokia said it was investigating (possibly app-related).

Today Microsoft said it is continuing to investigate the rebooting issue but is “working” to get an over-the-air fix out next month — providing the following statement

We’re continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners. We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December.

Microsoft would not comment further on the potential cause it has identified.
