Year-End Message: "Embrace, Emulate, and Heed Restore Integrity Award Winners"

PR Log - Dec 17, 2012 - Crown Point, Indiana -- “At a time when ‘national tragedy’ is a far too common phrase in America, we should embrace our Restore Integrity Award winners and, more importantly, follow their example and heed the voices of reform among them.”  So says George Stokes, Sr., co-administrator of the “Restore Integrity Awards” (RIA) program of POPULAR, a national legal reform organization.

POPULAR is an acronym for "Power Over Poverty Under Laws of America Restored".  Twice each year since June of 2009, the grassroots organization announces its “Restore Integrity Award” winners in public sector, private sector, and/or grassroots advocacy categories according to Dr. Andrew D. Jackson, one of the awards program administrators.  Dr. Jackson explains, “all of POPULAR’s award recipients have taken or otherwise pursued one or more specific acts or measures to eliminate significant inequity, waste, fraud, abuse, or other public and/or private sector corruption in America.”

In addition to helping administer the RIA program, George Stokes, Sr. is POPULAR’s National Program Chairman.  He adds that “POPULAR defines corruption as any illegal or unethical conduct contributing to the systemic malfunction of government, commerce, and/or democracy in America as contemplated by the U.S. Constitution.”

The 2012 year-end RIA recipients are as follows:

Public Sector Category:

The Honorable Thomas Wheeler, Texas State District Judge
, for his excellent balance of fairness and firmness in the administration of justice since joining the 350thDistrict - Taylor County, Texas in 2005;

Private Sector Category:

Attorney Jordan A. Thomas
for transitioning from the public sector as Assistant Director of the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement to private law practice, launching our nation’s first firm exclusively dedicated to advocating for SEC whistleblowers, which advocacy includes public education through SECwhistlebloweradvocate.com and a robust schedule of international speaking engagements.

James Ridgeway, a veteran journalist whose career includes working for numerous prestigious publications such as The Wall Street Journal, and his current position as Senior Washington Correspondent for Mother Jones, who campaigns relentlessly against America’s de facto policy of torture through solitary confinement, the horrors of which are regularly revealed and addressed by a website he co-founded, SolitaryWatch.com.

Grassroots Advocacy Category:

Karen Horwitz
, founder of NAPTA (National Association for the Prevention of Teacher Abuse), for heralding the role of classroom teachers in ensuring not only the sound education and safety of America’s children, but the corresponding stability, competitiveness, and progress of our country, all of which are threatened by rampant education and legal system malfunctions, chronicled by her book White Chalk Crime.

POPULAR will mail all of its 2012 year-end RIA recipients an encased certificate, commemorating their award.  They were personally notified of and congratulated for receiving the award prior to this public announcement.

POPULAR will announce its next round of RIA recipients in June 2013.  To learn about previous award recipients, visit popular4people.org/Restore_Integrity_Awards.html
