Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Recognizes the 2014 Acura MDX Crash Warning System

Acura's new MDX, available now at Chicagoland Acura dealers, was recently praised for its crash mitigation and warning systems.
PRLog - Oct. 22, 2013 - CHICAGO -- It seems as though Acura vehicles are constantly in the headlines, and the Chicagoland Acura dealers group is particularly proud of this newsworthy accolade: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety offered high praise for the 2014 MDX's crash mitigation and warning systems.

The IIHS has a history of rating and grading cars based on just how safe they are for the average driver, and Acura has often received high marks, so it is little surprise that the MDX is getting a bit of special attention.

The third generation of the vehicle, introduced for the 2014 model year, features forward collision warning (FCW) and lane departure warning (LDW) systems that help keep the driver aware of the situation on the road.

These additions—as well as others—helped give the vehicle the coveted Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, but that's not the only organization that's paying attention. The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated the vehicle as five stars overall for safety as well.

The MDX is one of Acura's luxury crossover vehicles, and in addition to being one of the safest autos on the road, it is also one of the most well-equipped and comfortable. Standard versions of the MDX include many luxury and technological amenities, including:

     • Automatic LED headlamps

     • Keyless entry/ignition

     • Heated front seating

     • Leather upholstery

     • Bluetooth

     • Eight-speaker sound system

Under the hood of each of these stylish people-movers is a 3.5L V6 engine rated at 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque; Acura engineering has ensured that this powertrain won't break the bank, though, getting an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 28 mpg on the highway.
