Seattle, USA - October 30, 2013 /MarketersMedia/ --

BetterThanDiamond.com, the leader in colorless lab-grown gems, today announced that it’s new Amora® Gem has been shown to test positive as diamond on a number of diamond and moissanite testers. These testers are commonly used by jewelers to distinguish diamond from other gems and simulants.

As a result, BetterThanDiamond is notifying jewelry professionals that they should not rely solely on standard diamond or combination diamond and moissanite testers to distinguish the new Amora Gem from diamond.

In addition, unlike other crystals, carat weight cannot be used as a simple test to differentiate Amora Gem from diamond either. Amora Gem will typically weigh in the same range as a loose equivalent diamond.

Finally, some Amora Gems are internally flawless and thus there are no defining inclusions to use as an identifier. Jewelers are advised to look for the micro-faceted girdle which is a patent-pending unique design for the girdle on the Amora Gem as a simple test to differentiate when in doubt, and to use high magnification and look for facet doubling from the underside at a 45 degree angle.

The Amora Gem is a new lab-grown gem that has only been in production since July of 2013, and thus is new to the jewelry world. While it occurs naturally around large stars, it has never before been available for purchase on Earth as a gem until July of 2013. An R&D sample was exhibited at the Hungarian Natural Museum of History in 2011/12 as the youngest and newest crystal on planet Earth. It is sold in colorless grades (D, E and F color on the GIA diamond scale) and has clarity grades as high as IF (Internally Flawless). All rounds are cut to Hearts and Arrows specifications and have the aforementioned micro-faceted girdle. The Amora Gem has superior optical properties to diamond and other known gems, and is the now the most brilliant gem on the planet. It is more brilliant than either diamond or moissanite, as well as tougher than diamond.

Thus, with Amora Gem becoming available globally, jewelers encountering what appears to be an extremely high-end colorless diamond should ensure that they do not rely solely on standard diamond or diamond-moissanite testers, nor loose weight on the scale, as proof of the gem being diamond.
