Museums around the country are bringing groups of people new to collecting or “young collectors” to the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair (PalmSpringsFineArtFair.com) for a perspective on colleting Post-War and Contemporary Art.
The growing interest in part reflects the idea that Fine Art can be a safe haven investment in unsettling times. Rick Friedman of HEG, which produces five Fine Art fairs across the United States including PSFAF, sees the global interest growing, which is attracting people new to collecting and investing. “Young collectors are deciding on their direction and goals,” says Friedman, “When Fine Art shows are selling out of work, there is a perception that the supply on the market is limited, and there are great stories of the one that got away.” The art on display in the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair is valued at over $100 million dollars, and millions in Fine Art is sold during the four-day event, says Friedman.
Panelists such as Steven Biller will be sharing insights with the attendees on the pros and cons and the ones that got away. “The goal of the panels is to educate young collectors and mature collectors on how to focus your collection and look for long-term endurance of the collection,” continues Friedman.
