4G LTE Wireless Technology Revs up Race Experience for Daytona Fans

Race fans at Daytona International Speedway now can enjoy more speed and power than ever before -- on their wireless devices -- during Speed Week and the Daytona 500, with enhanced 4G LTE technology from Verizon Wireless.

In addition to a new high-tech Distributed Antenna System (DAS) – which consists of a high-power base station and hundreds of small antennas positioned around the 480-acre motorsports complex – Verizon has deployed dozens of full-scale 4G LTE cell sites throughout Volusia and Flagler counties in the past year.

“Wireless users demand top speed, power and reliability, and we work hard to be the very best in the business,” said Frank Wise, executive network director for Verizon Florida. “At a venue that attracts hundreds of thousands of fans and global news representatives all texting, tweeting, uploading and downloading on their smartphones and tablets at once, we really have to drive hard to win.”

Verizon has the nation’s largest 4G LTE network, covering more than 300 million people across the country, and 99 percent of Floridians.

“Racing fans bring so much more than just a beer cooler and a ballcap to the races today,” Wise said. “They carry the most sophisticated wireless gear to tweet from the track, post pics from the pits or access real-time news and videos about their favorite racers.”

To further monitor and maintain top wireless performance at the event, Verizon will deploy technicians traveling around and near the speedway in high-tech test vehicles that almost rival race cars in their advanced systems and technologies. These teams will help tune the Verizon network for optimal performance and speed at the race and related activities.

In addition to enhanced Daytona 500 and Race Week performance, the ongoing network upgrades boost 4G LTE service for residents, businesses and visitors throughout Volusia and Flagler counties all year long.
