Banorte: First financial group to earn the Mexico GHG Program's GEI2 recognitionDESCRIPTION:
August 1, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Last June, Grupo Financiero Banorte became the first financial group to receive the GEI2 recognition from the Mexico GHG Program (Programa GEI México); a program that seeks to develop the capabilities of assessment, accounting and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the participating companies.
The program has a series of recognitions, GEI1, GEI2 and GEI3, which are bestowed according to the participants' activities in the management of their GHG emissions. Of the more than 120 companies that participated in the program in 2013, only 25 obtained the GEI2 recognition, including Grupo Financiero Banorte.
GEI2 recognitions are given to companies that conduct independent verification of their GHG emissions inventory, and have a strategy or GHG emissions' mitigation program.
"Participating in the Mexico GHG Program and earning the GEI2 recognition reflects our commitment to continue to implement actions that contribute to the mitigation of climate change; it is also an opportunity to invite Mexican companies to get involved and join forces against climate change" said Mayra Hernández, Executive Director of Social Responsibility of Grupo Financiero Banorte.
Also this 2014, the Group answered the CDP climate change questionnaire for the fourth consecutive year and participated in "Earth Hour" organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Also, it should be noted the 15.8% reduction in emissions intensity per employee obtained in 2013 compared to 2009.
In relation to Mexico's private financial sector, this is not the first time that the institution is one of the forerunners of this type of actions. In 2011 it acceded as a CDP investor signatory, being the first among private Mexican banks. Therefore, Banorte seeks to participate in both national and international initiatives that encourage progressive development to improve its sustainability performance, to make Mexico stronger.
