Arts Consulting Group interim management readies Stockton Symphony for the future

(ACG), the leading provider of hands-on management consulting services to the arts and culture industry, celebrates the growth and revitalization of the Stockton Symphony under the leadership of ACG Interim Executive Director David Hyslop. The Stockton Symphony, which has a long history of musical distinction and community programming, recently celebrated several milestones: two sold-out concerts in the current season and the successful negotiation of a three-year collective bargaining agreement with members of the American Federation of Musicians (Local 189). The new contract runs through June 30, 2017.
The Stockton Symphony Board of Directors is strategically positioning the organization for continued success, having recently partnered with ACG to launch a national executive search for its future executive director. During this period of leadership transition, the Stockton Symphony is leveraging the opportunity of having an industry-recognized leader such as Hyslop at the helm of the organization.
In recent months, the Stockton Symphony has strengthened its base of support, programmed an exciting Pops series to increase ticket sales, and renewed its commitment to education programs while focusing on artistic excellence under Music Director Peter Jaffe. The Stockton Symphony is making a meaningful impact locally through the Harmony Stockton program, which provides free daily music education to more than 70 students at Marshall Elementary School in South Stockton. Harmony Stockton is made possible by a four-way partnership between the University of the Pacific, United Way of San Joaquin County, Stockton Symphony, and Stockton Unified School District. In addition, the Stockton Symphony is celebrating the continued, positive impact of its Steppin’ Out Education Concert Series, a three-day series of back-to-back concerts that reaches more than 6,000 students in San Joaquin County every year.

Hyslop, who was appointed interim executive director in August 2014, is part of ACG’s national team of professional interim leaders. His career in arts management includes 32 years serving as chief executive officer for three of the nation’s top symphony orchestras: Minnesota Orchestra (1991-2003), St. Louis Symphony (1978-1991) and Oregon Symphony (1972-1978).
