Books-A-Million Releases their Top Fiction Picks for the Holiday Season

The holiday season has arrived and everybody is searching for the perfect gift for the book lover on their list. Books-A-Million has called on their industry experts to compile a list of the best books to share with others this holiday season. The list contains a revisited classic in Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman, a Hollywood adaptation with Andy Weir’s The Martian, two debut authors and more.

“2015 has been a notable year for fiction. The biggest literary event ever happened in July with the publication of Harper Lee’s much anticipated Go Set a Watchman,” said Margaret Terwey, Senior Buyer at Books-A-Million. “Even before that announcement, it was already shaping up to be a good year.”

The complete Books-A-Million Top Fiction Picks list for the holiday season is below:

  • Harper Lee – “Go Set a Watchman”
    • Written before To Kill A Mockingbird, Go Set a Watchman goes back to Maycomb where Scout, now an adult woman, sees the events of her life in a different light. Books-A-Million also has a limited quantity of signed copies of Go Set a Watchman to give customers a chance to own a piece of literary history.
  • Anthony Doerr – “All the Light We Cannot See”
    • All the Light We Cannot See was selected as a BAM! President’s Pick and has stayed on the bestsellers list since its release in 2014. All the Light We Cannot See is a historical fiction and beautiful novel about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II.
  • Kristin Hannah – “The Nightingale”
    • A tale of two French sisters who show great courage in the German occupation in WWII. The Nightingale is historical fiction that was an expert’s pick at Books-A-Million on its February release.
  • Ian Caldwell – “The Fifth Gospel”
    • Caldwell follows his 2004 release, The Rule of Four, with another religious thriller. The Fifth Gospel is the story of two brothers, both Catholic priests, who are involved in a controversial museum exhibit when the curator turns up murdered.
  • David Lagercrantz - “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”
    • David Lagercrantz continues Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Series with The Girl in the Spider’s Web. In this adrenaline-charged thriller, genius-hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist face a dangerous new threat and must again join forces.
  • Dean Koontz – “Ashley Bell”
    • Ashley Bell is the latest from the bestselling author Dean Koontz. It’s a must-read thriller for fans of dark psychological suspense. Ashley Bell follows Bibi Blair, a fierce, funny, and dauntless woman who has a sudden recovery after being told she has one year to live. An enigmatic woman tells Bibi that she escaped death because she is supposed to save someone named Ashley Bell. Suddenly, it becomes an obsession of Bibi’s to find this Ashley Bell.
  • John Grisham – “Rogue Lawyer”
    • Sebastian Rudd defends people that other lawyers won’t go near, including a crime lord on death row and a homeowner arrested for shooting at a SWAT team that mistakenly invaded his house. He does this because he believes everybody deserves the right to a fair trial and distrusts all levels of government.
  • Stephen King – “The Bazaar of Bad Dreams”
    • The Bazaar of Bad Dreams is a great gift for fans of Stephen King. In this book, King has included a large collection of short stories, several brand-new, each with autobiographical comments on what brought him to write the story. There are thrilling connections between stories; themes of morality, the afterlife, guilt, what we would do differently if we could see into the future or correct the mistakes of the past.
  • Paula Hawkins – “The Girl on the Train”
    • From debut author Paula Hawkins, The Girl on the Train is a psychological thriller that can best be compared to Gone Girl. The Girl on the Train was a BAM! Expert’s Pick and instant New York Times Bestseller on its January release and is already in the process of receiving a movie adaptation with Emily Blunt as the lead.
  • Garth Hallberg – “City on Fire”
    • City on Fire is an unforgettable novel about love and betrayal and forgiveness, and about what people need from each other in order to live. Following a cast of characters drawn from all social strata, Hallberg’s detailed and clever depiction of 1970s New York is full of the angst, energy, and pitfalls that the city evokes.
