A Milestone of Sustainable Proportions: The Spinnaker Group Certifies 100 LEED Projects

By: PRLog
The Spinnaker Group Inc., specializing in sustainability and LEED consulting, energy modeling and building commissioning, announces the certification of their 100th LEED project.
MIAMI - Dec. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Nearly a dozen years ago, The Spinnaker Group started out on a journey of sustainability that has not only helped positively change the landscape of South Florida, but that has made healthy impacts of global proportions. Rob Hink, founder of The Spinnaker Group and co-founder of the USGBC South Florida Chapter, saw a need for change in the way buildings were built and operated. Filling a void in the marketplace, The Spinnaker Group helped build some of the first LEED buildings in South Florida - and on November 30th TSG certified its 100th LEED project. Ranging in size and type, TSG’s extensive portfolio of LEED projects can be found locally in the U.S. as well as across the globe in far reach places such as Kuwait and Colombia. As of August 2015, more than 13.8 billion square feet of building space is LEED certified and it was estimated that for 2015, 40-48% of new nonresidential construction will be green, equating to a $120-145 billion opportunity (http://www.usgbc.org/articles/green-building-facts). The Spinnaker Group is proud to be a part of this global impact of change and with sea water levels on the rise; it is of extra importance for areas like South Florida.

One of the more recent LEED certified projects in TSG’s portfolio is the Miami Design District which is comprised of an entire neighborhood of sustainable development, earning the City’s first LEED for Neighborhood for Development certification. Projects like the Fort Lauderdale Airport Car Rental Facility, Staples retail in Miami, and the Palm Beach Zoo Animal Hospital helped get Spinnaker its start.  These early projects gave way to other exciting projects such as Broward County’s Young at Art Museum and County Library, International Finance Bank, Cleveland Clinic and various projects at the local universities such as the Broward College, FIU, Lynn University, Nova Southeastern University and the University of Miami. Spinnaker’s role in government is also extensive and can be seen in an array of municipal and civic projects both locally and state-wide. Spinnaker has also helped develop several LEED residential projects for both affordable housing and luxury clientele. Other private sector work also makes up a large portion of TSG’s portfolio, several of which are LEED Platinum certified. With these and other projects in the works, The Spinnaker Group will most certainly be well on the way to certifying 100 more projects before long, insuring the health and wellness for future generations.
