Valmie Resources (VMRI) Comments on the Significance of Drones in Relieving Stress on the U.S. Freight System

HOUSTON, TX / ACCESSWIRE / December 10, 2015 / Valmie Resources Inc (OTCBB: VMRI) President and CEO Gerald B. Hammack commented on the value of drones as an answer to the growing stress on the U.S surface transportation system. "The number of Americans shopping online is overtaking those who shop at brick and mortar stores," said Hammack. "During the coming decades, freight volume will grow by nearly half, to 29 billion tons a year. Our bridges and roads are not equipped for that kind of growth. Trucks, which currently move 70% of American freight, are wasting $27 billion a year in time and fuel costs just while they are stuck in traffic. The use of commercial drones as a partial alternate to surface transportation just makes sense."

During the recent Thanksgiving holiday, the National Retail Federation estimated that the number of Americans shopping online edged out those who went out to brick and mortar stores. The industry group's survey reported that an estimated 102 million headed to stores, while more than 103 million said they shopped online.

According to recent comments by U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx, the Department of Transportation (DOT) is on board with the drone delivery concept, saying DOT is looking at the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to relieve the surface transportation system. Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), one of the biggest retailers in the country, last month issued an update about its planned Prime Air service, which will deliver packages in 30 minutes or less via drones. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Walmart (NYSE: WMT) are also exploring drone delivery.

"Regulatory approval is likely to hold back UAV delivery services in the U.S. before technological feasibility, but the sooner the better. The technology is here," said Hammack. "Europe has decided to treat drones as their own category of aircraft instead of trying to fit them into a manned aviation framework. This policy stance means that in the coming years innovators such as Amazon, Google and DHL may find a more tolerant environment in Europe than in the U.S."
