Manning joins top experts in an international roundtable on how China will affect how the West does business
CHICAGO - March 8, 2016 - PRLog -- Tom Manning, global expert and advisor on China and former CEO of Cerberus Asia, Capgemini Asia, and Ernst & Young Global Consulting Asia, will lead a roundtable discussion at University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business on Thursday, March 10. The event, “Competing in a China-Modified World,” takes an in-depth look at how China’s actions, policies, and heightened level of original innovation will affect how the West does business in the coming years.
Executives in the West continue to struggle in interpreting how China will impact their companies and careers. “It is essential to take a long-term view of China,” said Manning. “During our roundtable, we will look at China’s current stock market volatility and economic slow-down, as well as its political scene, while looking out into China’s future as an innovation powerhouse and prospects for economic growth.”
Manning has been widely quoted as one of the leading experts on China innovation and policy, noting that those in the West risk falling behind if they underestimate China’s potential. He was quoted in a recent World Policy Journal blog post, noting that China has made strategic pivots towards game-changing original innovation, government focus on cultivating industry and the country’s talent base, and China’s leadership in STEM education. A prolific author, Manning has also recently been featured in Industry Week with his article, “China Technology Innovation Comes of Age.” He was also the subject of an in-depth interview with Global Finance magazine, where the editors interviewed him on the nation’s quiet innovation revolution.
Manning also highlights the fact that international and Chinese venture capital and private equity firms have been pouring money into Chinese enterprises, and China’s planned economy has been putting significant resources into specific areas of growth. “To be successful, Western companies need to recognize how competitive China has become, and they must understand the complexities that accompany competing in the global market.”
The roundtable will be held at the Gleacher Center, room 608, at 450 Cityfront Plaza Drive in Chicago, from 6pm to 9pm. There is no charge to attend, but interested parties are encouraged to register online.
