ALBANY, N.Y. - April 25, 2016 - PRLog -- The new Honda Accord Hybrid is back with better gas mileage, more power, and more technology, and it should go on sale later this year, after a hiatus from the market during development. The new Hybrid model should be able to achieve up to an EPA-estimated 48 mpg combined with 49 mpg city/47 mpg highway based on estimates from Honda. These figures are said to use the newest, more stringent testing regimen that the Environmental Protection Agency will roll out starting for the 2017 model year.
The new 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid will make use of an updated version of a new Honda powertrain that will use an electric motor to drive the wheels. The 2.0L gas engine will be used to power a generator that recharges the battery pack. That's in Hybrid Drive mode, but the Accord Hybrid can also switch to Engine Drive mode, which will allow the engine to help drive the wheels directly. Finally, there's an EV Drive mode that gives you all electric power and doesn't burn any gas. All that adds up to more efficiency than the previous Accord Hybrid models.
The new Accord Hybrid will also be more powerful-it will have a total of 212 hp compared to the 196 hp in the previous model. That's not all that's new, however; the new Accord Hybrid is available with a new infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as the Honda Sensing system of safety amenities that includes adaptive cruise control, automatic collision prevention braking, road departure prevention, and more.
The Honda Accord Hybrid is the first in a series of new efficient hybrid and electric vehicles planned by Honda. The Honda Clarity fuel cell vehicle is headed to dealerships this year, and a Plug-In Hybrid version of the Accord could go on sale next.
The current Honda Accord is available at Capital Region Honda Dealers. The new Accord Hybrid is set to go on sale soon, and the pricing for the new model should be announced closer to the actual on-sale date.
