Is Your Home In Danger of Hazardous Mold?

The untold story of how insurance carriers are failing to protect homeowners after Hurricane Matthew.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. & ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Oct. 13, 2016 - PRLog -- Hurricane Matthew has left devastation to more than 100 miles of coastline in Florida. Homeowners are desperately awaiting relief, including electricity and roof tarps to secure their homes. Unfortunately, many insurance companies are slow in responding and securing these properties from continued water intrusion. When they do send relief they are often sending subpar water restoration companies on limited budgets which are doing inefficient work. Roof tarps installed are flying off the roofs the very next day and the moisture inside the homes is not being properly dried out, resulting in mold growth now setting in these homes. Many homeowners have reported that they are being instructed to do what they can to cover their roofs and they are not being offered any assistance.

What many homeowners are unaware of is that mold will grow in as little as 24-48 hours if not properly dried out using specialized equipment that can dry behind walls, ceilings, and attics.

The Healthy Homes Council, a non-profit organization which helps homeowners detect and prevent hazardous living conditions, such as cancer producing asbestos, Chinese drywall, and mold, is helping Florida homeowners who have suffered roof, window, or door leaks due to Hurricane Matthew by assisting in the coordination of certified water restoration companies to accelerate the installation of professionally installed tarps to cover their roofs, windows, or doors. Additionally, the homes will be dried out using special dehumidifiers, blowers, air movers and anti-microbials will be sprayed to prevent or stall the growth of mold. Finally, mold test samples will be taken to a laboratory to determine if the home has been compromised. If so, state-licensed mold remediators will be assigned to assist the homeowner in ridding their home from mold.

There is no out-of-pocket cost to the homeowner who has coverage and is need of the above services. If you are a homeowner and have filed a claim or need assistance filing a claim, do not delay and call 1-800-985-1772 or visit www.healthyhomescouncil.org to request immediate service and guidance.
