Development planned for swath of land near Carowinds

The 24.2-acre parcel at 14523 Carowinds Blvd. was rezoned by Carowinds earlier this year from I-2, which permits general industrial uses, to I-1, a light industrial zoning designation that allows commercial development such as amusement uses, manufacturing, recreation centers measuring up to 30,000 square feet, hotels and motels, laboratories, up to 400,000 square feet of office space, and as much as 70,000 square feet of retail development.
