Duke Energy, state reach $84K consent order on coal-ash contamination at Charlotte-area plants

State regulators say an order requirement that Duke Energy speed plans to drain the ponds “is expected to substantially reduce or eliminate the seeps” of coal-ash contamination into nearby lakes and streams.
