In 2018, self-publishing is an industry. Although many authors quit their day jobs to write, some are giving up to return to employment. Self-publishing has become challenging.
The reasons self-publishing is more difficult include not only the immense number of ebooks published each month, but also the fact that authors are making money. They're treating self-publishing like a business, and are spending money on promotion.
Today, authors need to advertise their books to have any hope of making sales. However expensive paid advertising is a heavy burden.
Angela says: "Changes in Facebook's algorithm have affected many authors. Their pages have vanished from their readers' Facebook news feeds. So, they need to advertise but unfortunately, Facebook advertising is very expensive."
Short fiction ebooks can help to relieve some of the burden of expensive advertising, because the major benefit of writing short fiction is that authors can use it as a form of advertising.
