My loathing of musicals likely goes back to the first grade, when our teacher, Mrs. Sutton, forced us 6- and 7-year-olds to listen to the Broadway soundtrack of Hello, Dolly every day during afternoon nap time. Every day. To this day, musicals give me the shivers.
