The test prep company is launching a brand-new version of its flagship course, reports studywithit.com.

Study With It, which sells low-cost test-prep courses, reached two milestones in the first half of 2018: the website enrolled its 2,000th student, and it launched a stripped down version of its flagship course “TOEFL Clear Strategies & Tactics” -- an online video training system to help students prepare for the test.
The TOEFL is, according to ETS, the test’s creators, “the most the most widely respected English-language test in the world, recognized by more than 10,000 colleges, universities and agencies.” It is reportedly taken by hundreds of thousands of people per year. “It’s grueling,” says Study With It’s founder and instructional designer, John Healy. “It’s a very high-stakes test because your score can determine whether or not you get into a university, whether or not you get a job. It’s a big deal.”
Study With It’s new courseware package, which sells for $29, is called “TOEFL Turbo Tactics” because it targets a very specific type of student. “There is this segment of the TOEFL market that is high-urgency,” Healy explains. “You have these test takers that already have a TOEFL score, but it’s not quite high enough, and they have a test coming up. That’s the market for Turbo Tactics. That’s the Turbo market - for the students who need to move fast. So there’s no fluff in the course. It’s straight-up tactics that maps out exactly how to deal with tasks inside the exam.”
Founded in the summer of 2017, Healy credits Study With It’s growing popularity to a tried and true formula - finding a gap in the market and filling it. “I was helping my Korean niece get ready for this test, and we discovered this total lack of test preparation materials out there. The analyst in me kicked in and I thought, there’s a real need here. And the more I looked into it, the more I saw it was true: people really need to get their hands on affordable, quality TOEFL prep courseware that shows them how to solve this test. And they need to do it online, on demand, and on budget.”
While Healy is an Ottawa native and a business analyst by profession, he travels regularly to South Korea, where he also keeps a home. “I came over for 15 months and ended up staying for 15 years,” he jokes. Healy credits his experiences in Korea with igniting his passion for solving tough education problems and his interest in instructional design. “Whether you’re helping organizations like the Korean Herald solve IT problems, or university students like [my niece] solve English problems, you’re dealing with people, and you’re using digital tools to create these high quality outcomes, these amazing outcomes that help those people. And that’s very satisfying.”
