GLEN ELLYN, Ill. - Nov. 21, 2018 - PRLog -- SCARCE is a non-profit devoted to building sustainable communities through environmental education. On Tuesday, November 27th — Giving Tuesday — this award-winning organization kicks off their #ScarceInspires campaign to bring in monetary donations for their book rescue program, in addition to ongoing support toward helping others adopt green practices while reducing their carbon footprint.
Founded in 1990, SCARCE has been creating positive social impact through their innovative educational programs. Through coursework and hands-on learning, SCARCE introduces simple changes into daily routines that help save money and the planet. Schools and organizations can earn a series of Flag Certifications to prove their commitment to the environment, while teachers can benefit from graduate-level coursework in conservation and energy. SCARCE also hosts a variety of eco-friendly events and programs throughout the year to help inspire green living, such as their #pickup5 initiative, which encourages people to pick up five pieces of trash whenever they are out in nature.
SCARCE exudes the spirit of Giving Tuesday year-round through various reuse, recycling, and philanthropy efforts as well. This year's Giving Tuesday campaign is targeted toward their book rescue program, where team members carefully sort and repurpose used books and school supplies for teachers and nonprofits that do not have the finances to adequately support their students and clients. This program also gives a second life to materials such as instruments, textbooks, and even crayons that are melted down and reformed for kids with disabilities. Rather than having these materials end up in a landfill, they are benefitting users who need them most. Over the years, SCARCE has provided over 7 million books to local students and organizations serving over 60 countries, most recently Puerto Rico and Nicaragua.
Their book rescue program is funded solely through charitable donations, and receives no support through other avenues. Giving Tuesday kicks off the holiday season's spirit of giving, and this year, SCARCE is looking for monetary donations to help their worthy cause. Interested parties can donate through their website and raise awareness for green living by posting pictures of eco activities with the hashtag #ScarceInspires.
