Caldwell allows Honolulu building permit bill to become law, unveils new plans to speed permit process

The city is hiring four new plan reviewers at the Department of Planning and Permitting, starting next month, and plans to bring in at least two other experienced plan checkers — former or retired DPP staffers – on 89-day contracts to help with the backlog and train the new staff. Other initiatives include a policy of immediately rejecting incomplete plans and limiting the number of reviews for commercial and residential projects to three cycles.
